A small-group hiking escape into one of Wales’ wildest corners
A small-group hiking escape into one of Wales’ wildest corners
Hosted by Dan
Experienced Hiker
This three day hiking escape takes you deep into South Snowdonia, exploring the rugged Rhinogs and the iconic Cadair Idris in a small, supportive group. Expect bold landscapes, quiet trails, and a proper sense of adventure without the crowds. The weekend is designed around shared effort, steady pacing, and good energy. Days are spent moving through dramatic terrain, evenings are relaxed and social, with time to recover and reset for the next hike. This is not a party weekend. It is a grounded, outdoors focused experience for people who want to challenge themselves, connect with others, and leave feeling refreshed and recharged..

Friday is primarily a travel and meet up day. For anyone arriving early, there will be an optional short local walk to stretch the legs and settle into the surroundings. The focus is on meeting the group, easing into the weekend, and setting the tone for the days ahead. Final details will be shared once the group is confirmed, based on arrival times.

Saturday is a full mountain day in the heart of the Rhinogs. We will hike a 12.5 km circular route over Rhinog Fach and across to Y Llethr, with around 770 m of elevation gain. Expect rocky terrain, hands on rock sections, and a real sense of moving through wild landscape. We will pass Llyn Hywel on the ascent, a quiet and beautiful mountain lake. After the hike, we will head for food and a drink locally, followed by a relaxed evening back at base.

Sunday takes on one of Wales’ most iconic mountains. Cadair Idris is a 10 km out and back hike with around 915 m of elevation and dramatic views throughout. If conditions allow and the group is keen, we may opt for an early start to catch sunrise. Otherwise, we will take a steadier approach with time to pause at Llyn Cau before the final ascent. A fitting way to close the weekend before heading home.

I am obsessed with watermelon. It is the perfect natural electrolyte.
Dan has been hiking for four years, and what began as a way to switch off quickly became a full lifestyle change. Through hiking, he found new friendships, a stronger connection to nature, and a calmer, more grounded way of living. He has spent the past few years organising group hikes and weekend trips, bringing together people who value teamwork, communication, and shared experience over speed or ego. His hosting style is calm, supportive, and focused on making sure everyone feels comfortable and included.
Hiking was originally suggested to me as a form of escapism. From the first time I put my boots on, I was hooked. People show up differently in wild, rural spaces, and that chance to reset, either alone or with others, is incredibly powerful.
A few years ago I stumbled across the Rhinogs almost by accident while ticking off summits around the UK. The remoteness, the quiet trails, and the sense of space completely won me over. From winding country lanes to standing alone on a summit, it felt special straight away. I want to share that feeling with others.
